Weekend Getaways: Our Favourite Spots for Soaking in Victoria’s Stunning Scenery

From cramped trams to crazy crowds, weekends in Melbourne can really be excrementitious. If you need a breath of fresh air, step outside of the city and discover some of Victoria’s best spots for soaking up scenery, serenity and culture. Here are our favourite spots for exploring the best of Victoria - all just an hour or two out of Melbourne.

Phillip Island

Not just for penguin spotting, Phillip Island has something for everyone. A two hour drive from Melbourne, Phillip Island is the perfect day or weekend destination for good food, incredible sights and some serious relaxation.

From winery and brewery tours to healing massages and day spa experiences, escape the city and kick back island-style. If you want to really splurge, why not take a scenic flight for some uninterrupted views?

One of Victoria’s most picturesque and tranquil locations just an hour and a half out of the city, Daylesford has fast become the state’s go-to spot for gourmet dining and luxury experiences.

For Daylesford first-timers, we recommend exploring some of the many trails and nature walks, slowing down to enjoy a meal in town and stopping off for a visit at Hepburn Springs for some quality R&R.

A two and a half hour drive from Melbourne, Echuca is nestled on the banks of the Murray river and is Victoria’s oldest river town. With a broad range of activities, including historic attractions and impressive nature walks, Echuca combines small-town charm with adventure and exploration.

We recommend going on a river cruise, checking out a local festival and dining (and drinking) in at one of Echuca’s renowned restaurants.

High Country

A little further out of Melbourne, Victoria’s High Country is perfect for an adventure to get the adrenaline pumping. From skiing and snow sports in winter to walks and hikes throughout summer, the High Country offers incredible panoramic views of rolling slopes and expansive valleys.

If slowing down is more your speed, adventure out on a hike or nature walk to really soak in the scenery. Don’t forget to stop off at one of the many restaurants, wineries and breweries before you head home.

Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is one of Victoria’s most popular routes for tourists - and it’s easy to see why. With jaw-dropping views out onto the ocean and a multitude of incredible towns dotted along the coastline - including Anglesea, Lorne and Apollo Bay - how far you go is up to you.

If it’s your first drive along the Great Ocean Road, we recommend making your way up to the Twelve Apostles. Stop off for some incredible coffee and a gourmet lunch featuring produce grown just around the corner - all topped off with an award-winning local wine.

Escape the Chaos

Stuck on what to do this weekend? Ditch the chaos of the city and spend your weekend wandering through beaches, trails and small towns to discover the best of what Victoria has to offer.

While your colleagues might have been battling it out in shopping centre car parks or restaurant queues, you’ll come back feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready take on the working week. Or, you could always start planning your next weekend trip.
